Welcome Back Everyone
I am looking forward to an exciting year. We have so much going on this year with field trips and buddy classes. The students were excited on the first day of school to see all of their friends again. However, they were VERY SAD that we could not go outside to play on the new play structure. We discussed the reason why we had to stay inside. There are 10 students this year. Eight 5th graders which five I have now had for 3 years. Three 5th graders are in their 2nd year with me. 5th grade parents - this is your fair warning - I'm a cryer and the tears have already welled up in the thought of any of my 5th graders leaving. 4th grade parents take note - I WILL BE the same way with your children.
I am so appreciative of this opportunity to spend with your children. Thank you parents for raising such respectful, caring, and compassionate kids. They melt my heart every single day and all the teachers here treasure them. Here's to a great year (albeit a happy teary one)!
Staff
In the classroom this year we have: Ms. Deana Campbel, Ms. Kat Herman, Ms. Linda Kitchin and Ms. Suzi Beech
Ms. Jessi has returned as our SLP. Ms. Marcia and Ms. Carrie as our OT specialists, and Ms. Stephanie as our APE teacher.
Ms. Singleton and Ms. Sands - Music
Mr. Pitner and Ms. Barnes - P.E.
Mr. Fong - Spanish
Ms. Vale - Technology
Brand New Curriculum this year - it's amazing! I encourage you to look through your child's home papers to see what they are doing or visit Unique Learning Systems.com. This program is geared to your childs' individual needs; be it all verbal or visual and verbal. They each have their own account and can access it during learning times to practice math, reading, typing, comprehension and much more.
The white binders your child comes home with has a variety of things in it for you to talk about. Their daily schedule, home report, and completed papers. I am adding a section for checks or signed papers. Please make sure you check this for important notices. I will be checking everyone's binder every day for things you may send in.
Homework this year - read. read and question, and read some more!
I will be sending a list of comprehension questions that you may choose to use when you read. We will be touching on book reports this year and the students will be choosing their favorite book to write about.
Early Release - every Wednesday the students finish their day at 1:35. We call them Wacky Wednesdays. Your child is busy all day long with activities from buddy classes to speech circle to games with buddies, sharing, assemblies and so much more. They may come home tired.
Sharing will occur on Wednesday mornings. The students will be writing about their sharing on Tuesday. I encourage you to have your child bring in a favorite item from home to talk about for sharing.
Movie Friday - every Friday afternoon we chill out with our beanbags, chairs, cold cups of water and popcorn or other snack and watch a movie. It is much needed after a long challenging week. Please feel free to send a favorite movie in or suggestion. (I'm not hip to the new kid movies according to one student!)

Open door policy - I love talking with each family. Please never hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or comments. I am here to help your child succeed.
